Joanna Malfatti is a drummer/percussionist and educator residing in Southern California.  She earned her BFA and MFA in music from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) where she studied with esteemed drummers Joe LaBarbera, Randy Gloss, John Bergamo, Aaron Serfaty, and Alfred Ladzekpo.

Joanna has been a featured performer on three CalArts Women cds and four CalArts Jazz cds.  She has been the drummer/percussionist in a variety of groups such as niceJaquet, and the inFLUX Ensemble and has performed with such notable musicians as Vinny Golia, Wadada Leo Smith, Larry Koonse, Darek Oles, and Charlie Owens.  She has also performed with various jazz, R&B, Afro-Cuban, and African ensembles throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. Joanna currently plays in Djembe Nova, Curious Inquiries, KREAtion Orchestra, James Brandon Lewis Trio Project, and has recently started her own creative music ensemble, the Joanna Malfatti Trio.  Joanna is also an accompanist for the Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts.

Joanna is also an experienced educator.  She has taught within the Garden Grove and Westminster school districts as well as for Community Arts Partnership, Amuse Music Center, Vibe Performing Arts Studios, Academy of Creative Education, and Pacific School of Music and the Arts. Currently she teaches private drum lessons at Gilmore Music in Long Beach, CA and Eagle Rock Music Studio in Eagle Rock, CA.
